Bais City Ancestral House

             Casa Grande is one of the oldest house of Bais City. It was built during  Spanish times. Other ancestral houses of Bais were Casa Julian, Casa Larena, Casa Antonia and Casa Soltero.

       Bird Sanctuary and Mangrove Forest Park of Bais City is one of the most recognized natural habitats for wild species of different birds and other wildlife in the Philippine country. Officer of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources said that the four hundred hectares mangrove forest is one of the best nesting grounds in the country that need to protect and maintain in order to promote and strengthen the tourism industry of the city.

        Bird Sanctuary and Mangrove Park of Bais City is one of the city’s best tourist attracttours. Adventure of domestic and foreign visitors to the place drastically increased from time to time because of its exceptional and magnificence view that you can see once you get there. You can see the strip of white side that appears during the low tide, where travelers and visitors were able to play beach volleyball and engage other activities like picnic and some other fun.

        The the government official has improved the constructed concrete walkway [bamboo before] to give easier inside access to all the tourists to come to the Bird Sanctuary and Mangrove Forest Park.

Sipong sa Bais

          Sipong is one of the most awaited highlights in the many activities presented during the town fiesta. Its a festive thanks giving dance for a good harvest of crops, sea foods and other source of living found and cherished by the people in the city.

Bais City Christmas Fair 

     Be thrilled with the Christmas Fair. The Pasko sa Bais Festival, held at the City’s ball field, is an annual Christmas celebration featuring a 20-meter GIGANTIC Christmas tree and decors around the City Plaza. The Christmas Festival has continually drawn domestic and foreign tourists over the years.

Bais City Dolphin Watching

       Bais City is well known for its proximity to the protected marine sanctuary, the Tañon Strait. From the Capiñahan Wharf in the South Bay, the boat heads out to the Bais Bay and into the Tañon Strait where the dolphins frolic in the water, and the whales emerge from the deep. It is a fascinating to experience and behold these sea creatures up close. Other activities include swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling and scuba diving in the nearby reefs.

      Dolphin and Whale Watching is fast becoming a national attraction as well. It has gained popularity among travelers both local and foreign because of its appealing combination of activities.The adventure starts with a cruise along Bais Bay then out to Tañon Strait, the natural habitat of several whale and dolphin specie. Among the kinds of dolphins you may encounter during the trip are , pantropical spotted dolphins, bottlenose dolphins and long snouted spinner dolphins. Melon headed whales, short finned pilot whales, pygmy sperm whales, pygmy killer whales and dwarf sperm whales are commonly found in the TañonStrait too.After the show of sea mammals, you head out to Manjuyod White Sand Bar where the boat temporarily docks. Here you can savor your lunch of grilled pork and fish while looking out into the blue sea and sky and the white sands of Manjuyod. This place is also ideal for swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling and scuba diving in the nearby reefs.

Mojon Church

       Mojon is a sitio divided as part of Brgy. Sta Cruz Viejo Tanjay and Brgy. Calasga-an in Bais. The small but postcard-pretty Mojon Church is a landmark as is the Casa Grande of the Central Azucarera de Bais. 

      If one will consider the common understanding of the word MOJON , it symbolizes the monument that determines the boundary of lots or land to another adjacent lot. It symbolizes to what measurement  a man's land is identified. Likewise it identifies the exact boundary  of the land properties. 

Central Azucarera de Bais

     Bais City credits much of its progress to the Central Azucarera de Bais, the largest producer of raw sugar in the province of Negros Oriental. Established by the Tabacalera of Spain in the early 1900’s, it is also one of the pioneers in the sugar industry in the Philippines. This industry reached its peak in the 1930’s bringing affluence to the Negrenses and enabling them to build stately homes and to acquire properties all over the province.

 

White Sand Bar

             Though technically belonging to the jurisdiction of the neighboring Manjuyod town, the sand bar is closely associated to Bais City because of its proximity and popularity in the Bais area. It is also a major stopover during dolphin and whale watching group tours organized by the Bais City Tourism Council. The boat is temporarily anchored so that the guests can picnic, swim, sunbathe, and laze around, snorkel or scuba dive in the waters surrounding the sand bar.

          The Manjuyod Sand Bar is an estimated 600 hectare total strip area, including the submerged portions. Also known as the Sumapao Shoal, it is a certified tourist attraction because of its unique characteristic. It has been said that among the tourist spots in the vicinity, this one has the most potential.

              It is a stretch of white sand about 7-kilometers long in North Bais Bay that appear during low tide and disappear during the high tide. That is exactly how interesting to discover and explore and take adventure to that wonderful and beautiful tourist spots of Bais City, Negros Oriental.

              There are many things to do when you get there. During the low tide, you will enjoy sunbathing, playing and walking along the long stretch of white sand. During the high tide, of course, if you love swimming, the place is very ideal and perfect because of the clear water that attracts you that you cannot resist. Also Scuba diving is perfect as well as fish catching by hook.

          Manjuyod is accessible from Dumaguete City by cruise of about more than 1-hour cruise travel and that is 58.2 kilometers from Dumaguete City.After all enjoyable activities is over, you can relax to the available bamboo cottages for rent. Foods and beverages are not a problem. There are many Cebuano delicacies can be offered like fish and other sea foods as well as grilled pork. You can stay overnight lodging if wish too.

BAIS CITY

        Bais got its name from an elongated eel-like fish that used to abound in the locality’s streams and rivers. Legend has it that when a group of Spanish engineers and surveyors asked the natives of the name of the place, they answered Bais, thinking that then foreigners were asking the name of the fish they were catching.

Bais was once a barrio of the Municipality of Manjuyod when the village headman and his followers pledged loyalty to the Alcalde of the municipality. When the Americans put an end to the Spanish regime in the Philippines, Negros Oriental became a province with the late Demetrio Larena of Bais holding the distinction as its first governor.

       In 1901, Bais was recognized as a town. Since then, Bais contin- ued to move forward with remarkable persistence towards being a City and center of progress and development.

    The City of Bais came into being on September 1, 1968. Former President Ferdinand E. Marcos personally proclaimed Bais as a City on September 9, 1968.

      At present, the City of Bais is known for its eco-tourism develop- ment highlighting its rich and highly diverse coastal and marine eco-system as well as its pristine beaches and other well-con- served natural resources.
